St. Louis Rams Release Michael Sam: The St. Louis Rams have released defensive end rookie Michael Sam, the seventh-round draft pick making a bid to become the first openly gay player on an NFL team. Sam, a seventh round draft pick, had a strong preseason with 11 tackles and three sacks. A team source told ESPN that if Sam clears waivers the team is hoping to sign him to the 10-man practice squad.
I thought so too. He's tied for fourth in the NFL in preseason sacks. I know St. Louis is described as being extremely deep in defensive line talent. Maybe some other sack-desperate team like Jacksonville will claim him.

I think the NFL should allow him to be assigned to each of Cleveland's opponents on a rotational basis so he can help run Manziel out of the league as quickly as possible.

Sam isn't making the Rams' practice squad either, it appears. A lot of people have Sam jerseys for a team he won't be playing a down for.

I was sorry to see him cut because I like his story, but I don't think this was a bad cut on St. Louis' part. He's a very strong player, but not necessarily stronger than anyone they kept.
